My Golden, Kelsey, also did the "fancy walk" when retrieving something. I called it her "proud prance". 
Kelsey LOVED tennis balls, and I can't even imagine how many we went through during her 12 years. She had the habit of holding them between her front paws when lying down and systematically tear off the yellow fluff. Luckily, a friend of mine was an avid tennis player and he always brought us loads of used balls (apparently, serious tennis players only use new balls for a relatively short time, so if you're ever in need stop by a tennis club)!
